Solar mobile

There has been a lot of buzz about making technology “eco-friendly.” Not only do these devices reduce power consumption but also come handy on days when one is travelling or during power cuts.

Several mobile companies and manufacturers have begun to factor in solar energy to power the mobile devices.

In 2009, Samsung was one of the early runners to introduce a “blue earth” phone which was made from Post Consumer Material (PCM or material extracted from water bottles). Users can generate enough energy to power the device by charging it using the solar panel located on the back of the phone.
Later, Vodafone introduced an eco phone – Vodafone VF 247, a basic phone with a solar panel at the back.
Now, Micromax is gearing up to launch a phone with a built-in solar charger. The panel is expected to charge the phone in 3 hours that can support a talk time of 1.5 hours.
There are a number of solar powered accessories available in the Indian market which support the transfer of energy to devices. These accessories use solar energy to extend longer battery life to devices.
Soltech Equipment specialises in products running on solar power. The company manufactures solar mobile chargers and laptop rechargers. The charger has a battery to store power and a solar cell. It generates power from sunlight and charges the battery.
The Kudo case also offers eco friendly options to travellers. It is an iPad extended battery case that charges itself. It absorbs solar energy in direct sun light or indoors. This iPad extended battery stores the energy and transfers it to the iPad whenever necessary automatically. The USB port in the case can charge a phone as well.
Juice Bags (made in theUS) also has a similar offering. The bag has a 7- Watt, flexible solar panel attached to it which is a source of charge for many smaller devices.
